Joe Chambers - brilliant jazz drummer. And pianist?! ‘Double Exposure’, his unusual 1978 album recorded with organist Larry Young is a great one off. Chambers’ shows himself to be a more than competent pianist, with an album that is heavy with atmosphere and emotion. ‘Mind Rain’ was sampled by Nas for his NY State of Mind. The spacey, ‘out’ feeling of the first side carries on on the flip, with ‘After the Rain’ being a total piano solo. Suddenly the groove hits in on ‘Message from Mars’ as Chambers reverts to drums and Young’s incredible organ drives the music forward.

Truly a one off album! Young was to pass away shortly after the recording - listening to this there can be little doubt he was still hitting his peak.
